Crouse Hospital Hybrid Operating Room
Syracuse, NY
Client: Crouse Health
Size: 3,100 sq. ft.
Partner: Louis A. Porcaro, Architect
Date Completed: December 2014
The renovation of Crouse Hospital’s 3,100sqft Hybrid Operating Room included the complete demolition of two General Orthopedic Operating Rooms, Scrub, and Sub-Sterile Rooms, and adjacent support space. The demo and install work took place several feet from the active Operating Suite, with Surgical Cases daily. Infectious Control measures were put in place and maintained to ensure a zero-tolerance policy for patient and staff safety.
Upon completion of the demo, two state-of-the-art Hybrid Operating Rooms were constructed. Each contains a Toshiba Bi-Plane C-Arm Imaging Unit. These units are the first of their kind to be installed in the country. Mechanical & electrical services were closely coordinated with the latest requirements for these imaging units and Surgical Rooms, requiring precise coordination within the suite and with the surrounding hospital space that remained in service (including ORs, clean rooms, and the sterile processing department below). Hayner Hoyt worked with a Vibration Consultant and the project Architect/Structural Engineer to ensure that vibration/reverberation would not affect the extremely sensitive high-tech equipment in the Hybrid ORs.
